Articulation

It's been a long, confusing day. More downs than ups. And I didn't think I could spell out what I was really thinking or feeling, but a character did it for me.

"It's easier to push someone away first before they can push you away."

There are friendships that I value, but I end up feeling hurt even though they've done nothing wrong.

Maybe it's all a matter of perception. Maybe I'm just thinking too much into things.
Either way, I know what has to be done.

Why do the friendships that matter the most have to be so complicated?

Communication

Here's what I figured out:

Women say what's on their mind in more words than men. Since men use so few words, we (women) spend our time thinking too much into what men are trying to say. Men spend their time filtering through all our words to find understanding.

So the easiest way to understand each other may be for women to use fewer words, and for men to use more. Right? Or at least reciprocate what's being done to us.

One of my favorite quotes is from 20 years ago

All unhappiness is caused by comparison ~ Ms. Swanson, math teacher - El Camino High School (SSF)

What's different, what stays the same.

I went to a chocolate party today (which is a whole other topic) and ran into many former co-workers. I didn't recognize some of them at first, but once I did I recalled something my friend said. Corinda (H) Wong, classmate from elementary through high school, made a remark to a group of friends over dinner. At the time, we were all well out of college and getting into our careers. It went something like,

"...our hairstyles change, but we pretty much stay the same."

Other than longer (or shorter) lengths, my three co-workers were all the same as I remembered them. Corinda's observation holds true no matter what group of friends I'm with. Pretty cool.

Gas pricing....

My vehicle recommends only premium.
My husband's truck only needs regular.
My dad's old Mercedes only took diesel.

So what's the point of mid-grade? Seriously. I've never met anybody who used it. I've been told it's a marketing ploy, but I dunno.

when it rains, it pours

I just HAD to have an asthma attack a WEEK before my first trip to Walt Disneyworld.

You want to know the high in my city today? 107 DEGREES.

Oh yeah, I JUST got my period.

Quote of the night

Spoken by Don Draper (Jon Hamm) in tonite's episode of Mad Men:

" We're flawed because we want so much more"

Isn't that so true?

Never go to bed angry.

Whoever thought up the advice to "never go to bed angry" has never really been angry.

You know what music I'm embarrassed to admit to enjoying?

The music on my iPod/iPhone that plays on the main screen of Bejeweled 2.

It's futuristic. Kinda electro-Yanniesque. Maybe it's because it reminds me of the 80s.

Just listen to it for like 2 minutes and you'll think it's pretty badass too.

This is not meant to be witty....

..or funny (unless it happens to be).

I find myself having random thoughts that I just want to share. Really quick blurbs that come up during the course of my day.

Maybe you will agree with some of them. If nothing else, it will cause you to think about the stuff in your head.

Greetings and salutations.
